WE’RE BAAAAACK!!!

Much like the poltergeist from the feature film Poltergeist 2, in person events are back! Because scheduling is scary enough, Silver Space is here to help. Behold, our virtual baby - The Events Calendar - revived by popular demand. Here you can find out when the next gallery opening is, where you can hear free artist talks, and even what you missed out on because you didn’t check the calendar like you should have in the first place. Shame!

If you have an exhibition, event, artist talk, opening, or something tangentially associated, email marinam@silverspacestl.com and we’ll do our best to get you on!

Vincent Stemmler: Armature

  • Flood Plain 3151 Cherokee Street St. Louis, MO, 63118 United States (map)

Flood Plain is pleased to announce their upcoming exhibition “Vincent Stemmler: Armature”, which runs February 23-March 23, 2019, with a public reception on Saturday, February 23 at 6-9pm.

Featuring the work of Vincent Stemmler, a St. Louis City native and MFA student at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville, “Armature” is the artist’s first solo show in the city. The exhibition features ceramics, sculpture, and multimedia work that explore the personal and cultural legacies of industrialization, mechanization, and mass production. Combining mass-produced objects and trash with natural materials such as clay, dirt and grass, Stemmler recasts these industrial (by)products as main characters in an alternative, fragmentary history of late capitalism. Playing off this multi-perspectival facet of the artist's work, the show’s title harnesses the several, seemingly contradictory, meanings of the term “armature,” which simultaneously connotes both underlying frameworks or structures and also armor or physical or spiritual defenses. Rather than working to conceal or resolve this tension, Stemmler’s sculptures make themselves at home in this point of disjuncture, inviting the viewer to do the same.

“Vincent Stemmler: Armature” opens with a public reception on Saturday, February 23, 6-9pm. The exhibition will remain on display until Saturday, March 23. Open gallery hours are held Saturdays, 12-5pm, or by appointment.
