WE’RE BAAAAACK!!!

Much like the poltergeist from the feature film Poltergeist 2, in person events are back! Because scheduling is scary enough, Silver Space is here to help. Behold, our virtual baby - The Events Calendar - revived by popular demand. Here you can find out when the next gallery opening is, where you can hear free artist talks, and even what you missed out on because you didn’t check the calendar like you should have in the first place. Shame!

If you have an exhibition, event, artist talk, opening, or something tangentially associated, email marinam@silverspacestl.com and we’ll do our best to get you on!

ALINGERING NOTE: in-person gatherings during covid

With that being said, we encourage everyone to take proper precautions and mindfulness when spending time in public spaces.

Mane 'n Tail Opening Reception

The Luminary is excited to announce its initial 2018 exhibitions: Mane ‘n Tail, curated by Katherine Simóne Reynolds, and Secret Florida, a solo show with Chicago-based artist Eileen Rae Walsh, opening January 19th.

MANE 'N TAIL
One can argue that the beauty supply, as its own unique ecosystem, is one of the first “art stores” young Black women encounter: creativity oozes from these spaces. Your ego is the canvas and the materials are bundles, BoBos, and Blue Magic...

Mane ‘n Tail is an exhibition curated by Katherine Simóne Reynolds that investigates the intersectionality of this beauty exchange: How the Beauty Supply manipulates the way women of color feel about themselves, as well as the relationship between the purchasers of beauty and the people and spaces that supply it.

Participating artists include LaKela Brown, Pamela Council, Baseera Khan, Abigail Lucien, Narcissister, Yvonne Osei, Katherine Simóne Reynolds, SHENEQUA, Diamond Stingily, and Rachel Youn. Music during the open reception by DJ Agile One.

Programming for Mane 'n Tail:
1/20 @ 5pm Mane ’n Tail Potluck & Kiki
2/9 @ 7pm Screening - A Good Day to be Black & Sexy
2/13 @ 6:05pm Citizen Book Club #4:Juliana Huxtable "Mucus In my Pineal Gland"

SECRET FLORIDA
The smack of wet palms thrashing in tropical winds, I’m wondering if it was as sexy as I remember. How is it that flowers always seem drenched, more like flowers than other flowers? When peeling an orange, the gulls are squawking. Is there more anticipation when humid? The image more like eruption, less like fossil. It is fixation, a constant squint in bright blinding hot toned sun and dense shade.

Opening in the entry gallery is Secret Florida, a solo exhibition by Chicago-based artist Eileen Rae Walsh, presented in collaboration with ACRE.
