"Through phenomenological practices, material experiments, and contemporary images, Premastic explores and resists certain neoliberal modes of attention, presentation, performativity, and work. Connections between these disparate ideas emerge as I reveal their intersection through my female Latin American self, situated in the United States. I fall to the snow-covered lawn with a camera around my neck, then see the ground in the alley and suspend the pieces in sugar. I search an iPhoto stream for accidental photographs to hang in perspective. I trap screenshots of google image results for :/|\ between cushion and glass and seeping with lubricant. Over four months, I grind hardwood charcoal with a mortar and pestle, a Magic Bullet, and a meat grinder, then compress and rebind it. I chew absurd amounts of Hubba Bubba Bubblegum in public. The fragility of my being and of the material world defy the anonymous technological approach to identify merit. Where does desire lie in consumerism and misogyny? I share the artifacts and residue of my embodied experience. Material is substance, the body is mine, and the rest is lost.”

WE’RE BAAAAACK!!!
Much like the poltergeist from the feature film Poltergeist 2, in person events are back! Because scheduling is scary enough, Silver Space is here to help. Behold, our virtual baby - The Events Calendar - revived by popular demand. Here you can find out when the next gallery opening is, where you can hear free artist talks, and even what you missed out on because you didn’t check the calendar like you should have in the first place. Shame!
If you have an exhibition, event, artist talk, opening, or something tangentially associated, email marinam@silverspacestl.com and we’ll do our best to get you on!
