WE’RE BAAAAACK!!!

Much like the poltergeist from the feature film Poltergeist 2, in person events are back! Because scheduling is scary enough, Silver Space is here to help. Behold, our virtual baby - The Events Calendar - revived by popular demand. Here you can find out when the next gallery opening is, where you can hear free artist talks, and even what you missed out on because you didn’t check the calendar like you should have in the first place. Shame!

If you have an exhibition, event, artist talk, opening, or something tangentially associated, email marinam@silverspacestl.com and we’ll do our best to get you on!

ALINGERING NOTE: in-person gatherings during covid

With that being said, we encourage everyone to take proper precautions and mindfulness when spending time in public spaces.

Coral supports the most biologically diverse regions of the ocean by acting as living structures that offer platforms and resources for species of plants and animals. Their journey is precarious at first; starting off as larvae that floats for miles in the ocean, after planting upon steady ground, they quickly transform. As it grows, a coral’s skeleton forms part of the reef and forms living structures that build homes for countless other creatures. With the help of other tiny organisms, it can still take many generations and years to construct the underwater metropolis we see today.

Life on the reef is dependent on thousands of creatures working together, each with their own role to play. We believe that these symbiotic relationships that scale upward and outward with time are metaphorically similar for artists in our city; systems of support for creativity and sharing are vital for growth, come in many forms and layers of dependence, and may create lasting impact in the cultural ecosystem that grows from their initial root. It is in this spirit that the Futures Fund releases Cycle 4: to fund innovative artistic projects, foster relationships of mutual support, and celebrate the patterns of diversity in interdependence.

Futures Fund is now open for applications for 2022 for grants ranging from $2,500 to $8,000. Funded proposals will take innovative approaches to the urgent questions of our moment; create lasting impact on its intended publics; exemplify equity at all levels; and display originality within the region and nation.
